Navy Exchange (NEX)

Established in 1946, our mission is to provide our customers quality goods and services at a savings and to support quality of life programs. The retail stores and many services offered by Navy Exchange Service Command makes it an important quality of life benefit to customers…active duty, family members, retirees, national guard, and reservists…around the world, both ashore and at sea.

Service Command Seventy percent of the profits generated within the Exchange System are given back to Sailors in the form of Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) distributions. In fact, over the last 50 years, the Navy Exchange has contributed over $2 billion to the MWR fund. The remaining thirty percent is retained by the Navy Exchange System and funds new stores, renovations, and other major improvement projects.

The Navy Exchange Service Command is headquartered in Virginia Beach, Virginia and employs over 15,000 dedicated associates in over 100 locations worldwide. With the exception of the Ship Stores Program, we are a federal non-appropriated fund activity. As such, the Command is self-supporting and all profits are reinvested in MWR programs and in Navy Exchange buildings and equipment. All programs focus on the Sailor and the necessity of a good quality of life.

Within the Navy Exchange System are five primary business units. These include Navy Exchange retail stores and services, Navy Lodges, the Navy Uniform Program, the Ship Store Program, and Telecommunications. Click on the tabs to the left to find out more.
