James B. Castle High School

Established in 1951, James B. Castle High School serves a community of about 50,000 people from Kaneohe to Kualoa. Castle's complex consists of Castle High School, King Intermediate, and eight elementary schools--Ahuimanu, Heeia, Kahaluu, Kaneohe, Kapunahala, Parker, Puohala, and Waiahole. Castle has a student population of approximately 1800 in grades 9-12.

The school has strong support from the community and maintains several partnerships--Parent Partnership association, University of Hawaii's Masters in Education in Teaching (MET) program, Windward Community College, Castle Medical Center, and Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel. Castle's Performing Arts Center, with theatre, dance, and music, draws students from many areas of the island. The Marine Corps Junior ROTC program in the only one in the State. Castle is also a member of the Oahu Interscholastic Association and students participate in a multitude of sports activities at either the Junior Varsity or Varsity level. The student activities program-- schoolwide, class level participation, and clubs--provides additional co-curricula activities for students. Technology is emphasized, helping students and staff utilize hardware and software as tools for learning, as well as learning to maintain the hardware and develop programs.

James B. Castle High School was accredited in 1999 by the Western Association of School and Colleges for a period of 6 years, and adopted School/Community-Based Management in 1994.
