Governor Sanford Ballard Dole Middle School services students from the Kalihi area on the western end of Honolulu. The school maintained the middle school philosophy while committing to standards-based teaching and assessment. Dole is in partnership with Edison Alliance who guides curriculum efforts and assists in developing common schoolwide practices.
The Dole Academy was started to further enrich students' educational experiences by providing academic support and enrichment activities that include supplemental educational services in reading and math, special interest clubs and other programs such as track and field, basketball and volleyball intramurals, and dance. Parent involvement has increased due to the high-technology graduation program, mandatory student-led conferences, and outreach meetings in the community. The PCNC Coordinator has also increased parent involvement through newsletters, PTSA and SCC, and workshops for parents. Dole was accredited for another three-year term in Spring 2006.
