Hale'iwa Elementary School has been on the present school site since its establishment 130 years ago. Originally built in 1871, Hale'iwa has seen many changes in its years of existence. The daily life in Hale'iwa remains rural despite the economic shifts in the area.
Hale'iwa serves students of varied ethnic, social and economic backgrounds in grades K through 6. Most of the students reside between Waialua Beach Road, Kamehameha highway and Pupukea.
Hale'iwa Elementary School promotes cultural pride and educational pursuits. Dedicated staff, parents and community organizations work cooperatively to address the needs of ALL children. Our faculty and staff also work collaboratively with complex schools, sharing resources, problem-solving common issues, addressing complexwide curricular, and maintaining student/family support services.
Research based programs such as Reading First and Everyday math are implemented in every classroom. Varied instructional strategies help students achieve the Hawaii Content and Performance Standards.
Supplementary opportunities are available: enrichment, intersession classes in reading, math tutoring after school, A+ after school program, JPO, peer mediation and leadership club. While capitalizing on each child's strengths, the school has designed improvement efforts (i.e. staff development, fiscal resources, School Community Council) to address three major expectations for all students:
- A literate student;
- A responsible individual;
- A critical thinker.
Children require knowledge, skills, processes and attitudes to succeed in school and to achieve their life goals. The school's purpose is "to develop a well-rounded, literate citizen, equipped with the necessary coping skills and strong values system in order to be a responsible and independent citizen of the world."
