Hana High School & Elementary School (& 408-Ke'anae Elementary)

Hana High and Elementary School is a K-12 school serving approximately 350 students along 50 miles of rugged coastline from Keanae to Kaupo. The town of Hana is an agriculturalcommunity with three main employers, The Hotel Hana Maui, the County of Maui and Hana High and Elementary School.

Hana High and Elementary School is the center of all student activities. Between 75%-80% of our student population are of Hawaiian or Part-Hawaiian ancestry. At the beginning of the 2005- 2006 school year Hana School implemented a four-day instructional week with Friday being used for staff development and professional learning communities. Hana School is focusing on the use of technology in learning and has installed approximately 300 servernetworked computers in the past year. There is a focus on studentdirected project-based learning that utilizes the integration of the core curriculum areas. Due to our rural nature more emphasis is being placed on distance learning to provide additional opportunities for our students.

In August 2005 a 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant was implemented at Hana School. This grant provides extended learning opportunities for students Monday – Thursday until 4:00 PM and bus transportation home. There are also extended learning opportunities on Fridays between 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
