Hokulani Elementary School

Hokulani School serves the St. Louis, Kaimuki and Moili'ili community. Built in 1958, the school today serves approximately 400 students in grades Kindergarten through Grade 6. Nestled between the University of Hawaii-Manoa and the lower Kaimuki business district, Hokulani is noted for its students' high test performance. Due to its highly regarded reputation, a large number (approximately 63%) of students attend the school on geographic exceptions. Teachers implement an exemplary standards based educational program across content areas.

Services provide for a range of student needs including special education, the Primary School Adjustment Program (PSAP), English As A Second Language (ESLL), and Gifted and Talented. We strive to have each child reach his/her potential in all areas--academically, physically, culturally, emotionally, and socially. Hokulani is a peace-centered school and implements Tribes, a group process that promotes cooperative learning, social skills and responsibility.

Family participation is actively encouraged through Aikane O Hokulani which organizes and supports many special events. A variety of volunteer and school wide projects promote the partnership between home, school and the community. Since 1993, our students participate in a cultural exchange program with their peers from Japan. In 2005 as part of Act 51, a School Community Council (SCC) was established to provide a vehicle for parents, students, staff and the community to share their voice in the wellbeing of Hokulani. Together our partnerships reinforce our commitment to excellence as we continue to provide a balance of academic rigor with enriching extracurricular opportunities and service learning.
