Iroquois Point Elementary School has been helping children discover the joy of learning since 1960. Located 2.5 miles from the Ewa Beach business district, we serve children and families from the Iroquois Point Island Club and surrounding community. Our student body is drawn from a combination of military and local families, which reflect the ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic diversity of Hawai'i.
The child-centered learning environment in each of our classrooms provides a nurturing, structured and stimulating place where our students can develop creativity and build critical thinking skills. IPES teachers strive to meet the individual needs of each student while making learning challenging and fun. The physical environment is important to student success, we are a totally air-conditioned school.
IPES's curriculum is aligned with the Hawai'i Content and Performance Standards and is supported by programs and textbooks that are nationally recognized and research-based. We emphasize a balanced curriculum, which includes authentic learning experiences as well as the acquisition of basic skills. Computers are available in every classroom as well as a "state of the art" computer lab.
Recognizing the importance of developing the whole child, we offer different opportunities through band, the only elementary band in the Leeward District, ukulele, and chorus. Athletic activities at our school are designed to teach fundamental concepts like teamwork and fair play. Our intramurals include basketball, track, volleyball and cheer-leading.
Because we believe so strongly in the importance of the home school connection, Iroquois Point provides many opportunities for families to gather in the celebration of and support for learning. Activities and meetings are held regularly throughout the year to keep our parents and community informed and involved in our school. A wide variety of events are scheduled, such as Curriculum Fairs, Math Night, Movie Nights, Parent Workshops, student performances and Star Watching.
Our school encourages voluntarism and involves parents, teachers, community and administrators in decision making through the School Community Council. Our Parent Community Networking Coordinator serves as a liaison between home and school, providing opportunities for families to get involved in their children's education. Our new transition center will be available to aid all incoming families with a variety of assistance and information.
Through the center of the Iroquois Point campus winds a yellow brick road, built to remind our school family that there is a rainbow in each of us. Just as Dorothy realized at the end of the Wizard of Oz that there is no place like home. IPES is a place where children can flourish in a rich educational environment. Our school theme is "Iroquois Point Elementary School, Where Rainbows Begin."
