Kahakai School's name reflects its proximity to the ocean. The school is located two miles south of Kailua-Kona and is embedded In the Alii Kai subdivision. The school is located in the Kealakehe Complex and has an enrollment of 620 students. KES is a Title 1 school with a large ELL population.
In 2005, Kahakai's NCLB Status was "In Good Standing, Pending". This meant that we had met our adequate yearly progress (AYP) in Reading but not Math. Considering we were a school in "planning for restructuring" status in 2004, we made substantial improvement in a year. We will continue to keep focused, striving to lead our students toward achieving the standards and hopefully show proficiency in both Reading and Math. We are planning to continue to utilize the support of our consultants in Reading and Math so that we will accomplish the goal of proficiency school wide.
