Kahala Elementary School provides a caring and challenging environment, where students receive a foundation for continuous positive growth. Research-based strategies and student data drive improvement in curricular and academic areas. Teachers provide enriching activities integrating technology that are student-centered and standards-based.
Based on the 2005 Hawaii State Assessment, Kahala Elementary Students (grade 4-6) are demonstrating 82% proficiency in reading and 64% in math. These scored are above the current state benchmarks of 44% reading and 28% math. Students consistently achieve scores in the top 5% of all Hawaii public schools. In addition, the school is on the Hawaii Department of Education SAT9 Honor Roll, for high achievement in reading and math. For the past four years, Kahala Elementary School's overall status has been recognized as "Exemplary" with a NCLB AYP category designation of "In Good Standing, Unconditionally."
As collaborative members of the School Community Council (SCC) the Kahala School teachers, parents, administrator, classified staff and community members strive to nurture self-directed, complex thinking communicators and quality producers who work together harmoniously.
Kahala Elementary, with an enrollment of 500 representing 12 ethnic groups, serves an upper-middle income community in East Honolulu as well as students who reside outside of its geographic area requesting to attend Kahala. In 2005, Kahala was selected as an NCLB Nationally Recognized Blue Ribbon School.
