Kaimuki High School is a comprehensive, co-educational, public high school for grades 9 through 12. The school is implementing smaller learning community structures. In 2005-2006, an advisor-advisee program was started, and all ninth and tenth graders were on teams. In 2006-2007, the school will begin establishing upper level academies in Performing Arts/Media, Technology, Health and Fitness, and Human Services.
The school is located in Kaimuki, a suburban area in the eastern part of Honolulu. Its district boundaries include the communities of Kaimuki, Kapahulu, Moiliili, McCully, Palolo Valley, St. Louis Heights, and Waikiki. It also includes parts of Diamond Head and the University Area.
Kaimuki High School' is one of two high school Performance Arts Centers on Oahu. The school also has a strong emphasis on technology and is beginning to develop programs in video/media production in partnership with community television.
The Western Association of Schools and Colleges accredited Kaimuki High School in 2001-2002 for a period of six years and a mid-term visit was made in April 2005. On its significant progress, the visiting team states, ""The school has several groups and a workable system in place for stakeholder input, open discussion, and decisionmaking. Among these groups is the School Community Council which was established in July 2005
