Princess Victoria Ka'iulani Elementary School, located in Kalihi- Palama, has attained a "No Child Left Behind" status of "In Good Standing Unconditional" for the past three years. We are also a National Blue Ribbon School. Here, symbols of poverty are obvious: public housing, homeless shelters, social services offices and graffiti. Streets bustle with activity from a rainbow of immigrant groups; the most recent being the Chuukese from Micronesia. Challenges intensify after one realizes that schooling in Chuuk is often sporadic or non-compulsory. However, in spite of these adversities, Kaiulani School remains a pillar of opportunity for a better life for all children through education.
Through our English for Second Language and Schoolwide/Title I Programs, we provide many opportunities for students to receive before-school, after-school and during school tutoring and small group assistance. Our ESL program also provides a "One-Room School" setting for students with very limited or no English language skills. Throughout the year, all parents are invited to attend community meetings and training on how to help their children at home.
We are proud of our successes and remain visionary about our plans for sustained achievement.
