Kalani High, located in the Kahala section of East Honolulu, along the major thoroughfare of Kalanianaole Highway, is one of six public high schools in the Honolulu District. There is no public housing within its boundaries. Most of the students come from middle income families. Student enrollment from the old, established neighborhood has declined and approximately 26% of the student body live outside the district demarcation and attend Kalani on a geographic exception. Thus, the actual composition of the student body more closely reflects the ethnic variety of the state rather than the surrounding community.
Kalani High School was accredited in 2005 by the Western Association of Schools & Colleges. Its School Community Council has been organized, as required by the 2004 Reinventing Education Act for the Children of Hawaii, and will enable administrators, teachers, parents, students and community members to work together to improve student achievement."
