Kamiloiki Elementary School

Kamiloiki School is nestled near Kalama Valley at the heart of Hawaii Kai in East Honolulu. The faculty, staff, students, and parents work together to promote a standards-based education, the 3R's (Respectful, Resourceful and Responsible), and professional development.

Along with the support of neighboring Kaiser Complex Schools, Kamiloiki focused on three areas: Standards-Based Curriculum, Assessment, and Positive Behavior Support. In many ways we addressed the State's 3R's of Rigor, Relevance and Relationship, while maintaining our own 3R's of Respect, Responsibility and Resourcefulness.

With the extended support from the entire school community Kamiloiki has continued to promote high academic standards, as evidenced by the students' HSA and SAT scores, quality student products, good attendance and mutual respect exhibited by both students and teachers.

Up to May 2004, Kamiloiki was known as a Fine Arts and Technology School, with Band and Orchestra classes, additional art and physical education classes, afterschool Keiki Chorus, Oral Expression/Speech classes and networked computers throughout the campus. We continue to foster these enriched traditions, while also refocusing our limited resources to meet the growing challenges of Annual Yearly Progress. We will return to the Arts in Fall 2006 as our teachers continue to build the capacity within the school.

A Media Center was constructed in Spring 2001. By Fall 2001, ""Kamiloiki News,"" a weekly closed circuit broadcast was started. Students also produced video taped projects. In Spring 2003, the teachers produced slide shows on videotape. We continue to communicate through our website. By Spring 2004, we upgraded our telephone system which now includes voice mail and speaker capabilities. In Spring 2005, we began our plans to upgrade our library to be web-based. We hope to get our second computer lab running to capacity by Fall 2006.

We have the tremendous support from our PTSA and Parent Volunteers. School Community Based Management was an integral part of the governance structure for over a decade. Our School Community Council was established in May 2005 for the 2005-06 School Year. This year has been an exceptionally wonderful growth year, as we completed our Academic and Financial Plan for SY 2006- 07.
