Kanoelani Elementary School, founded in 1982, serves four suburban communities: Sea View, Crestview, Waipio Gentry, and Hale Lumi. Huaka'i, a sculpture that fronts the school, greets all visitors to the campus. The Polynesian crab claw sail represents our students' beginning their voyage through life, filled with educational experiences that will help them be successful.
The journey includes standards-based instruction with the focus on reading, writing, science, and math standards. Teachers and staff have high expectations that all students will meet or exceed the standards.
Kanoelani's PTA is an active component of the school. From Pumpkin Carving to fundraisers, from Gingerbread Houses to providing classroom funds, the PTA is an integral part of the school community. We are proud to announce that our PTA won three out of four state awards at the PTA Annual Convention for school year 2005-2006.
Special programs include our Kanoelani Chorus, the Tech Crew who produce school videos, the Library Club, Campus Police Officers (CPO), JPO, Hawaiian Studies, Japanese Language and the student council. These volunteer students and their teacher advisors provide a variety of community services for the school. They are an integral part of the school's community and are often called upon at a moment's notice to provide support for school activities.
Finally, the school has recently established partnerships with the USS CHAFEE DDG, Costco, Tropical Images, Sentricon, Cub Scout Pack 167, Leeward Lions, Servco, McDonalds, Pearl Harbor Rotarians and many more. These partners helped with campus beautification activities, planted gardens, provided termite prevention, painted buildings, built benches, coached track and math teams, and of course read with our children. These volunteers have tirelessly provided their time, energy, expertise and needed funds to help sustain the journey for our community of learners.
