Spanning more than forty acres and sitting atop Kapaa High School is on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, between Kapaa town and Kealia Village. It serves students from Wailua Houselots, Wailua Homesteads, Kapaa, Kapaa Homesteads, Waipouli, Kealia, Anahola, Kilauea, Kalihiwai, Wainiha, Princeville, Hanalei, and Haena. The school serves a very diverse student population, with substantial numbers of students of part-Hawaiian, Caucasian, Filipino, and Japanese backgrounds. Families' socio-economic status ranges from low income to affluent.
Kapaa High School's School Community-Based Management (SCBM) Program has been replaced by the School Community Council. Representatives from six component areas meet monthly to discuss areas of concern to Kapaa High School.
Ties to our community are through the Parent Community Network Center (PCNC), School Community Council, The Century Program, fisheries project partnership with the Department of Land and Natural Resources, and the Parent Teacher Student association (PTSA). Parents are involved with our band program, student activities, campus beautification, athletics, Project Graduation, Career Fair, Student Achievement nights and on and off campus parent informational meetings. In return, our students have assisted with the Food Bank, Kapaa Elementary A+ program, Boy's and Girl's Club, North Shore and eastside beach clean up projects, The Read-to-Me Project, Taste of Hawaii, and various other projects. In addition, the Health Occupation classes hosts a yearly Health Fair and Blood Drive.
Since February 2004, our campus has hosted an East Side Summit. The venue is to strengthen and support our families. Kapaa High students and staff are very active participants on this day and JROTC and various service clubs support their efforts.
