Kea'au Elementary School is located in a vibrant and growing community in the heart of Kea'au on the Big Island of Hawaii. In 2005-2006, the student enrollment was 764 students in Grades K-5.
The major curriculum focus is on Reading, Writing and Math. The schoolwide curriculum consists of Direct Instruction, a research-based method proven successful in raising student achievement, and supplemental instruction to provide students access to all of the Hawaii Content and Performance Standards.
In addition to a strong academic program, Kea'au Elementary School prides itself in having an outstanding performing arts program. Each year selected students participate in a drama production which includes the school chorus. This successful event attracts parents, community, and other schools to the performances.
School climate and student safety are important features of Kea'au Elementary School. The schoolwide "Being Pono" Program which promotes positive student behavior, has had a positive impact on student discipline and promotes CSSS.
