Ke'anae Elementary School

Keaukaha Elementary School (KES), founded in September 1930, provides K-6 regular education and special educational services. KES also house the Hawaiian Language Immersion Program, Ka 'Umeke Ka'eo Public Charter School (formerly known as Kula Kaiapuni o Keaukaha).

More than ninety percent of KES students are of Hawaiian ancestry. KES is located in the heart of Hawaiian Homestead Lands. The Keaukaha community is one of the first two Hawaiian Homestead Lands established by the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act by Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana'ole.

Facilities include eight main buildings, five of which are between fifty and seventy years old, and six portables. In the Fall of 2002, the new Kawananakoa Hall Gymnasium, adjacent to the school, was built replacing the original structure of many decades. Physical Education classes are held in the new gym. New playground equipment, constructed according to new physical education standards and safety codes, was dedicated in the Fall of 2004. A Department of Transportation/State of Hawai'i Air Conditioning project was completed in the Spring of 2004, affecting all main buildings and most of the portables. The Library also houses the school's computer lab. Every classroom is computer/internet ready, online with a Local Area Network that connects KES with the world.

Our School Community Council (SCC) was elected in the Spring of 2005. The SCC meets monthly on school-related issues.

The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) provides the necessary school wide and classroom support for its students and teachers on a continuum basis.

The Keaukaha School Foundation is a 501©3 non-profit organization that was created in April 1999 to assist Keaukaha School in providing our children the best opportunities for educational success.

Reading Mastery in the school's Core Reading Program. Beginning SY 2006-2007, Math Investigations will be the school's Core Math Program.

The May Day program has for years become the school's traditional event. It has become a true celebration for the entire community on a yearly basis.

The school encourages its students to wear the school uniform, a blue and white T-shirt with the school's Wave logo on the back. In addition, the "Keaukaha Got Pono" slogan can be seen on colorful T-shirts on and off campus promoting the importance of appropriate behavior and attitude tied to genealogy, history, and place of setting.

School Year 2005-2006 marked Keaukaha School's 75th Anniversary.
