Kilohana Elementary School opened in 1935. KES is located on the southeastern coast of Molokai a little beyond the 13th mile marker. Ohana is a concept that's embedded within the families of this community. The students carry the feeling of Ohana within their relationships with one another and also with the faculty and staff. One of the focus at Kilohana is Parent Involvement. Parent Night is offered regularly throughout the school-year to help keep the parents involved and informed with the school's curriculum and activities.
Kilohana's faculty and staff collaborate regularly to maximize the educational values found within the established activities and programs. The school's Title I serves students who need help with reading, the gifted and talented program continues to improve, and the special education program insure that the most effective form of instruction and the related activities will help meet the needs of all students. Hawaiian Studies, Science, and the Arts curriculum have also been strengthened. Computer literacy, whether in the classroom or in the tech lab, continue to help students increase their opportunities to integrate technology with the different subject areas. Kilohana offers a Learning Center for homework assistance and enrichment activities.
Kilohana Elementary School has a strong and committed School Community Council that was established during the 2004-2005 school year.
