Kohala Middle School serves a community of about 6,000 people. The area is very rural and had early roots in the sugar industry. Presently the community families work in the hotel and tourism industry. We are a Title I school and geographically isolated, in spite of this the school has been able to provide strong academic programs and a variety of extra curricular activities.
We have several programs to support the students during and after school these are: tutoring and computer-based instruction in reading, math, and a Hula Halau. In order to provide student support and instruction students were assessed Fall, Winter, and Spring using a computer based assessment. Students were provided standards based instruction via the computer and worksheets to support academic achievement.
