Lahainaluna High School opened in September 5, 1831 as the oldest school west of the Rocky Mountains. Located in Lahaina, on the island of Maui, Lahainaluna is rich in tradition and culture and is the only public boarding school in the state of Hawaii.
Our students come from diverse economic and ethnic backgrounds throughout the United States and the Pacific islands. Lahainaluna is part of a society and local community that is experiencing rapid change. In the past 2 decades, the community has transformed from a predominately agricultural economy to one based on tourism.
The school has established smaller learning communities on campus. These smaller learning communities include Arts & Communication; Business Management & Technology (Academy of Hospitality and Tourism); Health & Medical services: Industry, Engineering & Technology; Ninth grade teams; and Natural Resources.
The school is also well known for its Agriculture Learning Center and for Po'okela, the school's advisory program.
Lahainaluna High School was accredited in 2004 by the Western Association of Schools & Colleges for a term of six years. The school is currently transitioning from School Community Based Management to implementing a School Community Council.
