Lanakila Elementary School

Lanakila Elementary School is in Liliha-Palama, nestled amidst small businesses, churches, community services and residences. Our vision, ""Lifelong learning . . . together we can make a difference!"" incorporates our belief in shared decision-making, collaboration and cooperation. We have a small school of less than 300 students, our classes include intervention groups with average class sizes of only 6 students, our faculty is committed to a challenging curriculum, and school-wide staff training on best practices based on research is conducted bi-monthly.

Lanakila's educational programs provide for all childrengifted/ talented, disadvantaged, special education, limited English proficiency and preschool. The school is committed to provide the best educational opportunities for every child and provide performance -based groupings to enhance student learning. In addition to two computer labs, art and music enrichment is provided for every student .Popular programs include the 2nd grade Animal Habitat Research Project, Star Night, the Annual Talent Showcase and Before/After-School Reading/Math Tutorials. After School Programs are offered by: Kumon, Kamaaina Kids, Chinese Lion Dance, Girl Scouts, Good Shepherd Church and Supplemental Educational Service providers. The 5th grade class has Art Enrichment at the Art Academy.

Community partnerships also enhance education at Lanakila. The Navy Seabees assist with our annual Fun Run and participate in read alouds. Students work with the Hawaii Foodbank to distribute produce to Lanakila families. Kumon donates math tutorials. University of Hawaii graduate students conduct physical fitness activities while receiving practicum experience. Our Parent Activities Committee presents monthly meetings on topics of interest. Our School Community Council meets regularly to support educational programs. The spirit of teamwork truly "makes a difference" for our Lanakila Ohana.
