Lihikai School is centrally located in an urban community of Kahului. It was established in 1961, at the old Kahului School site and moved to its present facilities in 1965. Originally a K-8 school, Lihikai changed its configuration to K-5, with the opening of Maui Waena Intermediate in 1990. Besides serving half of Kahului, boundaries include Harbor Lights, Paukukalo areas and we also serve students from various geographic exceptions from throughout the island. Our present enrollment exceeds 1,100 students, of which 49 percent qualify for free and reduced lunches.
Lihikai has a School Community Council that meets once a month to review and give input to all financial and academic plans. Focusing on standards-based education, setting our roles and actions to enhance our curriculum and organizational effectiveness with renewed vigor, we strive to meet the needs of all our students.
