Queen Lydia Lili'uokalani Elementary School

Queen Lydia Liliuokalani Elementary is a small & personable school, situated as an oasis in the midst of Kaimuki Town. There is one class per grade level, from kindergarten through sixth grade, each with relatively small class size. In addition, there are three special education classes that regularly integrate with the general education classes.

The school is bordered by many small stores and restaurants in the business district, as well as by residential homes in an established neighborhood. We are reaching out in our community to support them by keeping Kaimuki clean. We are establishing a litter clean up day, at least once a month, in which our students will go out into the community to pick up trash.

Dedicated in 1912 by Hawaii's last reigning monarch, Queen Liliuokalani School is deeply proud of its educational heritage. In keeping with our sense of history and place in Hawaii, the school has constructed a beautiful natural garden outdoor stage, which served as an elegant backdrop for our 90th anniversary celebration. In addition a ceramic tile mural depicting Queen Lili'uokalani, standing about 15 feet high, was dedicated by the students. In February 2006 a local Eagle project built a pedestal on which our school sign is now posted. It is located on the corner of Koko Head and Waialae Ave.

Queen Liliuokalani School offers a variety of after school programs that all children can participate in. Some programs are general sports and basketball, choir, foreign language, ukulele, and dancing. Academically, and despite being a Title I school, we have met all AYP and NCLB requirements reflecting a successful school. We also offer an early morning tutorial service that services students from 6:30 a.m.

With active parent participation from our PTSA and SCC council and a dedicated group of teachers and staff, Queen Liliuokalani School is truly "a creative, caring, and supportive community where learning blossoms."
