King William C. Lunalilo School occupies a city block in Honolulu's densely populated urban center. It is located in close proximity to Waikiki amid clusters of single-family homes and apartment buildings. Lunalilo School is a school with a strong academic emphasis, high student achievement, well-rounded co-curricular programs, and an effective array of comprehensive student support services. The school community's efforts to help every child achieve high standards are apparent in the emphasis on standards-based learning, active participation in the safe and drug free environment, and vibrant network of school-family-community partnerships. The school is noted for its co curricular opportunities, that include a peer mediator program, chess club, grade 5 band program, intramurals, and is home of the "Heart Beats In Time" jump rope demonstration team.
King William C. Lunalilo Elementary School has established a School Community Council which enables shared decision making among the principal, teachers, parents, students and community members to support and enhance student performance. The school also has an active parent group, the Lunalilo Community School Association that provides opportunities for parent participation in activities and events to promote parent involvement in the learning process.
