Makakilo Elementary School, founded in 1968, is located on 7 acres of land in a residential area on the lower slopes of Makakilo. It is one of 4 elementary schools in the newly formed Kapolei Complex. The majority of the children reside in neighboring single-family homes or in townhouses.
The faculty and staff continue to commit and provide a quality standards-based education, with the focus on reading, writing, and math. Makakilo, a Title I school, adopted the Success For All (SFA) comprehensive reform model in August 1999, in an effort to improve reading achievement. Makakilo adopted Every Day Math (EDM), a math reform model in August 2002, in an effort to improve math achievement. Makakilo Elementary has been recognized as a Distinguished Achievement School making AYP for three consecutive years (2003, 2004, and 2005).
Support from our community/business partnerships and school community council provides resources to enhance our curriculum. Makakilo's PCNC and PTSO play an important role in the school. Lunch & Learn (L&L) activities are encouraged which the PCNC/PTSO holds every fourth Wednesday of the month.
