Moanalua Middle School is located on the island of Oahu about eight miles west of Honolulu and within three miles of the airport. The student population reflects the economic and ethnic diversity of the community, with about one-third of the students being military dependents from Army, Navy, and Coast Guard families. The school is known for a caring and supportive staff, parent and community partnerships, exemplary fine arts programs, innovative middle school practices, and high expectations for student achievement. An active interschool sports program engages boys and girls in cross country, volleyball, basketball, track, cheerleading, and wrestling.
The school name was officially changed in 1997 to Moanalua Middle to reflect the full implementation of the middle school concept. Committed to shared decision-making, Moanalua Middle was a school communitybased management school for ten years and recently transitioned from SCBM to a School Community Council. The school was accredited in 2005 by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) for a full six years. The WASC Visiting Team report may be reviewed on the school web site.
