Molokai Intermediate School is located in the Hawaiian Home Lands community of Hoolehua on the island of Molokai. Prior to school year 2004-05, Molokai Intermediate School (grades 7-8) and Molokai High School (grades 9-12) were a single school. Beginning with school year 2004-05, the schools were divided into two separate entities. While the schools continue to share the same campus, physical boundaries have been established as well as distinct and separate schedules for usage of the shared facilities; which include the gym, cafeteria, athletic field and library.
Our student population is comprised of Hawaiians/Part-Hawaiians, the largest ethnic group, followed by Filipinos, Caucasians, Other Pacific Islanders, and Asians. 60% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The MIS Uplink serviced 36% of the student body in a three hour, daily after school program. The Uplink program included a variety of offerings in tutorial remediation, sports, cooking, music and dance, video/computer technology, and leadership. MIS's instructional program included the core subject areas, art, the Exploratory Wheel (ukulele, music, hula), Health/PE, BPA (keyboarding/computer literacy), yearbook, and the Hawaiian Language Immersion Program.
Extra curricular activities included intramural sports, math competition, Science Fair, Spelling Bee, and a variety of on and off campus student activities. Currently, there are two student organizations on campus – the Math Club and the Student Council. MIS is supported by the PTSO, and SCC organizations. Both organizations were formulated this school year. Parent involvement is encouraged through these organizations and in many student activities.
