Mountain View Elementary School

Our mascot is the Hawaiian Hawk, 'Io, endemic to the Big Island of Hawaii and a symbol of royalty in Hawaiian legend. Our school motto, "Take Flight and Soar," exemplifies the direction for Mountain View Elementary. We have successfully met the Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) criteria in accordance with the No Child Left Behind Law for the past three years ('02-'03, '03-'04, '04-'05) and been designated a school "In Good Standing, Unconditional." More importantly, we are continuing to target areas of identified need and are putting time, effort and financial backing into them.

After several years with little fluctuation in enrollment, Mountain View Elementary is experiencing a current surge and has increased by 65 students this past year to a present 457 students. The teaching and classified staffs are stable; many have been at the school for more than 15 years. We are a Title I school, with 84.6% of our students qualifying for free/reduced meals.

We continue to explore new configurations in scheduling, instruction and support services to see what works best for students. We believe it is a privilege to work with our students and it is not something we take lightly.
