Na'alehu Elementary School and Intermediate School

Na'alehu Elementary and Intermediate School, built in 1928, is located in the southernmost community on the island of Hawaii, the Big Island. The school is located 63 miles from Hilo on the east and about the same distance from Kona on the west. Na'alehu School serves students in grades PreK through grade 7. The PreK, Kamali'i Family Literacy Program services three and four year olds in a literacy rich readiness program involving parents.

This year, the School Community Council (SCC) worked with the school in developing its first Academic and Financial Plan using the weighted student formula. The SCC also continues to support efforts for the six classroom building and a new school library.

Gear Up and Talent Search continue to support our middle school students with programs that encourage them to continue their education after high school.

Representatives from the Kamali'i Program, PSAP, PCNC, Title I Coordinator, ESLL and the school counselor have teamed to form the Family Focus Team that plans various activities for our students and families. Each month the Family Reading Night is held in the school library and also at the Ocean View Community Center. A huge coordinated effort takes place in the planning the Health Fair that occurs on the same day as the school's Multicultural Day Celebration.
