Palisades Elementary School

Palisades Elementary School, nestled on a slope on the west side of the beautiful Ko'olau mountain range, is a geographically isolated suburban public elementary school built in 1966. It is in the Leeward District and the smallest school in the Pearl City Complex. The culturally diverse make up of the community makes it essential that the school address the different value systems of the cultural groups it serves.

Striving toward excellence, Palisades Elementary School is continually refining its school improvement efforts focusing on student achievement towards standards, parent/community involvement and professional development. In addition to the basic curriculum, Palisades integrates the following instructional resources into its curriculum: computer technology and enrichment programs with a focus on math, PE resource and Hawaiian Studies. To address students in need of extra instruction, parents, community and military volunteers and Educational Assistants tutor students during and after school. A display of student work is shared with parents and the community at the annual curriculum fair. Palisades welcomes parents to Halloween Night Read Aloud and Pumpkin carving, Christmas Craft Night, Field Day, Fourth Grade Makahiki and many other activities.

Palisades Elementary has an active PTO Board who coordinates activities for the school and also financially supports various school and grade level activities. Fun Fair, held in May, is an attempt to bring the community into the school. The annual Sports Day is a successful fundraising event that integrates PE standards into the school's curriculum. In order to create wholesome family nights, the PTO Board has instituted Movie Nights at the school. The fourth grade makahiki and the annual sixth grade banquet, in addition to many other grade level activities, are financially supported by the PTO.
