Pearl City Elementary School

Our Pearl City Elementary faculty and staff are committed to the development of the whole child: academically, socially, and emotionally. Students are challenged and nurtured to realize their potential through being offered a wide array of programs, such as: school wide literacy projects, broadcast journalism, multi-media/tech productions, Multidisciplinary inquiry-based projects, and PCES Chorus performances.

In the upcoming three years our school will be supported by the Reading First grant program which offers to our students daily interactive small group instruction to ensure that every child is given the opportunity to build their reading skills so that all children can read on grade level. We are also fortunate that for the upcoming two school years, our students will be supported by a NASA grant which is intended to augment our science resources so students will build their knowledge in various fields in science. In addition to science, a goal of the NASA program is to build student knowledge in math, technology, geography, and in engineering fields. Student leadership is groomed through a joint partnership with businesses who support the following campus organizations: Peer Mediators Program, Student Council, Broadcast Journalism, Junior Police Officers (JPOs), Library Club, Athletic teams, and through our PCES Chorus. An appreciation of cultural diversity is developed through Hawaiian Studies, Spanish, and Japanese language classes.

The PCES school staff is very stable and experienced in standards-based instruction. This past year our teachers were asked to serve as presenters for community math conferences, professional development workshops(Curriculum Mapping) and one of our teachers received the teacher of the year for a business sponsored contest. In addition to the full time staff, part time teachers and support staff work toward providing integrated lessons so that student achievement is attained and learning is fulfilling. This past year, Pearl City was among a few schools which volunteered to pilot the Junior Kindergarten program. Many of the Junior-K students will be now be promoted to grade 1. Elementary School has a School Community Council that focuses on providing school wide service support for our students. The school is currently on a year round schedule. Pearl City School's State test scores are at and/or above the state norm.
