Pearl City High School (PCHS), located at the top of Waimano Home Road., enjoying a spectacular view of Pearl Harbor, serves a middle income community. Our strengths lie in our academic, student activity, anti-drug, athletic, and band programs. We offer a wide range of courses, from laboratory classes to advanced placement courses in English, Calculus, Chemistry and U.S. History. Other strengths include an excellent special education program, a music learning center, an award-winning Student Assist Program and a Positive Behavior Support program to encourage positive behaviors, a program to teach parenting skills to students who become parents (GRADS), and smaller learning communities (Core Program) for 9th & 10th graders who don't qualify for special education services, but need a little extra attention in their learning. In 2006, the Western Association of Schools & Colleges accredited PCHS for a six-year period. Presently operating under School/Community Council as mandated by Act 51.
PCHS offers a myriad of opportunities that enrich students' academic experiences. Co-curricular opportunities include the Spanish Club, Hawaiian Club, Japanese Club, Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA), Math Team, Drama Club, Science Club, Future Farmers of America, and Future Community and Career Leaders of America (FCCLA). Extra-curricular opportunities include serving in class or student government leadership positions, joining various service clubs such as Leo, Key, and Interact, and participating in school sponsored activities. The Athletic Department provides opportunities to participate in 16 boys' and 16 girls' sports. Pearl City High School teams have won and continue to win a number of league and state team championships. In addition, numerous individual championships have been won. The goal of these opportunities is to develop teamwork, humility, leadership skills, pride, respect, selfdiscipline, and perseverance.
The school maintains a tradition of many strong ties to the community. Opportunities for parent involvement are offered through the School Community Council and the PTSA, which boasts a membership of over five hundred people. Parent volunteers help with the band program, athletics, Project Graduation, and the creation and distribution of the school's monthly newsletter. The Pearl City Community Association (PCCA) provides manpower, financial support for activities, and scholarships for our graduates. In turn, our students volunteer to help with their annual fundraiser. The Outrigger Hotels and Resorts has been a partner with PCHS for over a decade through the Hotel Education Partnership Program (HEPP). Students are able to participate in work-based learning opportunities, tours, speakers, and other partnering activities. The PCHS Alumni Association, established in 1996 through the initiative of the principal and the efforts of the Student Activities Coordinator, provides another means of support to the school.
