Pearl City Highlands Elementary School

Pearl City Highlands Elementary School is located in the Leeward school district on the island of Oahu. Approximately 60% of the students live outside of the geographic boundaries of the school. The majority of the student population come from median income families.

Pearl City Highlands Elementary School is one of ten public schools in the Pearl City Complex which include a high school and an intermediate school. The school is within walking distance to the public library, a shopping complex which houses Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and Home Depot, a police station and community parks. The school is known as the Junior Chargers, and its colors are maroon and silver.

PEACHES, as the school is affectionately called, has a close relationship with its parent organization, Kokua Hui, has the support of several community organizations, churches, and the School Community Council, and is actively engaged in a partnership with the Navy APSPAC Command, which provides tutorial services and facility support to the students and the school. Over the years the school has been active in recycling projects and was recently awarded a $10,000 first prize in a recycling contest sponsored by the State Department of Health.

PEACHES is on a modified school calendar and offers a K-6 curriculum as well as a special education preschool and a parent education program called Families for REAL. The school also houses a Pearl City Complex clinical psychologist, a behavioral specialist, and a complex area speech pathologist.

The school has been recognized by the Department of Education with the Distinguished Academic Achievement Award for three consecutive years for exceeding the NCLB reading and mathematics proficiency benchmarks. It offers before and after school childcare programs at affordable rates. The Breane Swann Scholarship Fund offers fully funded scholarships in drama and the arts during the summer break.
