Pukalani Elementary School

Nestled in an "opening in the heavens" along the slopes of Haleakala lies the community of Pukalani. When the clouds part in the sky, there is a "heavenly opening" which is the meaning of "puka lani", where sunshine and gusty winds prevail. Built in 1976, Pukalani Elementary School currently serves a population of approximately 500 students. Businesses and residences now occupy Pukalani, once an agricultural zone.

Pukalani Elementary School is located in the Upcountry Area and is part of the King Kekaulike High School Complex. Ninety percent of our thirty-one teachers are fully licensed. The average number of years of teaching experience is fifteen years.

Based on Act 51, Pukalani School has established a School Community Council. During the last three years, we have secured various grants and received assistance from the PTA in order to extend learning and provide intensive supports for classroom learning to increase level 2 supports for our Comprehensive Student Support System.

Our learning community believes that all students can learn, and that providing a standards-based education for all children is important. Pukalani Elementary School is a caring 'Ohana strongly committed to inspire all to be respectful, responsible, life-long learners.
