Salt Lake Elementary School, established in 1970, is part of the Moanalua Complex Schools. Students wear uniform school T-shirts to promote school spirit, pride and safety on campus. The school is a NCLB/Title I school and has placed literacy and professional development as priorities in its school reform efforts. Within the past six years the school applied and received two Title VI Grants for comprehensive professional development and a 3-year Comprehensive School Reform (CSR) Grant to implement the research-based First Steps writing program.
Students can join one of six service groups and get involved in many civic responsibility opportunities. The Performing Arts Group comprised of Grades 4 – 6 students perform for the school and community.
As one of the 22 Pilot Schools for the Weighted Student Formula (WSF), the school implemented its Academic Plan (AP) this year. The School Community Council (SCC) was actively engaged in the Academic and Financial Plans for SY 2006-07. The PTA and SCC actively supported two successful Talk Story with the Principal Community Meetings. The PTA is also active in fund raising and sponsored the annual Fun Fair to raise funds to support learning experiences for the students and other school initiatives.
With Standards-Based learning as the nucleus, everyone is working to support a learning environment to promote student achievement.
