Robert Louis Stevenson Middle School was the first in Honolulu District to adopt and implement the Middle School Concept in 1988. Located at the base of Punchbowl crater, Stevenson provides middle school curriculum, best practices, and support to our diverse ethnic and socioeconomic student population. In May 2002, we were granted a coveted six-year accreditation term by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Our recent mid-term review of our progress by WASC in April 2005 was also successful, validating and reconfirming Stevenson's student achievement goals and the planning and activities in place to reach them over the next 3 years.
We continue to provide programs that address the unique intellectual, social and emotional needs of our early adolescents. A grant from the R.M. Towill Corporation made school-wide implementation of Accelerated Math possible. Stevenson's Band performs year round beginning at Open House in August, marches in two community Christmas parades in Moiliili and Manoa, and participates annually in the Maui Band Festival and the Roosevelt Complex Area Punchbowl Festival. Students also participate, place, and win in many competitions including Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Math Counts, Solar Sprint, and Art competitions. Stevenson's mission is to nurture and sustain student growth and achievement by supporting all our students so they may achieve our vision of "responsible, caring, confident, life-long learners."
