Wahiawa Elementary School first opened its doors in September 1899 to educate the children of farmers who were brought in from California. Today, Wahiawa Elementary School sits on a 13-acre lot that was once an experimental gladiola farm for the neighboring Wahiawa Botanical Gardens. The school serves students of varied ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds and a variety of special needs.
In 1999, Wahiawa Elementary adopted Success for All, a comprehensive school reform model focusing on Reading and Language Arts. In addition, Wahiawa Elementary is aligning all curriculum with the Hawaii Content and Performance Standards, with a strong focus on mapping the math curriculum. Finally, Wahiawa Elementary has incorporated Positive Behavior Supports with the emphasis on being Responsible, Respectful and Safe. Wahiawa Elementary continues to provide our morning Reading Center, and monthly Family Bingo Nights to encourage parent involvement throughout the school year. Our School Community Council has been established and everyone is invited to partner with us to ensure that every child is successful in school.
