Waiau Elementary School, which opened in 1974, is situated in a flourishing community of diversity from single-family homes to townhouses, with families from every ethnic group and all walks of life. The school facilities include two permanent two-story buildings, an administration building, a library, a cafetorium, and twelve portable classrooms.
Waiau Elementary School strives to develop positive relationships in a safe and nurturing environment and to create a respectful and responsible community of individuals who love learning. Waiau Elementary School offers a wide range of learning opportunities that include the Hawaiian Language Immersion Program, Title I, PSAP (Primary School Adjustment Program), Special Education (SPED), Pre-Plus (preschool) and education in the arts.
Students have the opportunity to learn through the visual and performing arts which include the Hui 'Ukulele, Waiau Chorus, Waiau Sound Machine (percussion group), and the Waiau Violin Group. The balanced curriculum offered at Waiau provides for the interests, strengths, and needs of all students. Waiau completed the process of transitioning from School Community Based Management (SCBM) to a School Community Council (SCC) during SY 05-06. Parental support is key to the success of the students.
