Wailupe Valley Elementary is a small public school in east Honolulu located in the valley of Wailupe behind the Aina Haina Shopping Center. We are unique in that we provide a small, safe campus where students, families, and staff are actively involved in school like. Our enrollment is relatively stable with about 120 students. The size of the school enables everyone to know each individual child by name; there is a strong sense of community at the school. About half of our students are from outside the district attendance area attending Wailupe Valley on geographic exceptions.
As a part of the Kaiser Complex, we serve students from Kindergarten to Grade 5. Our school's parent organization, the Ohana Board, actively supports the schools' vision and mission by fundraising and providing volunteers for school wide community building activities and student support. Our PCNC coordinates our Fellows program (senior citizen volunteers) and other adult volunteers to support student learning as well as coordinates parent trainings and informational workshops. Students may be involved with Student Council, extramural basketball league for grade 5 and 6 students with neighboring public and private schools, JPOs, community events, and afterschool tutoring and enrichment program. Children in upper grade classes partner with lower grade classes to build community through our "buddy class." Our afterschool A+ program is operated by the YMCA.
