Waimea Elementary School

Waimea Elementary School is located in the heart of Kamuela on the Big Island. Once considered a rural community, Kamuela is rapidly becoming more suburban in nature. The community is a blend of ranching, farming and high technology. Headquarters for Keck Observatory, Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Corp. and Parker Ranch are found within the town limits.

Waimea School was founded in 1916 as a one building schoolhouse containing 8 classrooms. Today, Waimea Elementary School is home to approximately 675 students in grades kindergarten through grade five. Waimea Elementary School will begin its first year as a restructured school. America's Choice is the comprehensive reform model to be implemented. New elements to be added to the school's literacy program include the introduction of the New Standards Performance Standards, Reader and Writers Workshops, the Million Words Reading Campaign, and the Principal's Book of the Month.

Waimea Elementary School will continue the 3rd year of the Growing with Math curriculum. And will investigate a school wide science curriculum to implement in the 2007-2008SY. Waimea Elementary School is dedicated to providing our students a rigorous, standardsbased education across the curriculum.
